My Music Travels Better than Me

Welcome to the first Mike Z Blog post. Thank you for stopping by.

As I was checking my latest Mike Z Band Spotify stats, it hit me: My music travels better than me. Don’t get me wrong. Lynda and I have had some great trips. However, we’ve never been to Europe or outside the confines of North America and the Caribbean.

In the past month, Mike Z Band music has traveled to Brazil, Germany, Switzerland, Peru, New Zealand, and Slovakia.  That sounds like a lifetime Greatest Hits of Travel.  My music hit it in one month.  Fear holds me and Lynda back a bit.  Apparently my music has no such fears.  It’s been across the US, played in India, Poland, Spain, Russia, and Canada to name a few.  Heck, when CDs were still selling, the Mike Z Band can proudly say that CDs were purchased in Germany, France, South Africa, and Australia.

So, what to do?  I imagine setting up a tour to follow the music.  I have my day job, so it will have to be short.  I will find the one person in Brazil, the few folks in Germany and Switzerland and Peru, and the one person in each of Slovakia and New Zealand.  Do I book bars?  Do I find a few cafés?  Maybe I can just do house tours in the countries where I have one fan.  Will Lynda be like “Hell Yea!  I’m there!” or “Please send postcards.  Sophie (the cat) and I will be waiting for you when you get home.  Have fun!”?

What would it be like?  My play stats provide cities/towns in addition to countries.  Bratislava, Slovakia caught my interest.  Maybe it was the fact that my recent DNA test placed my ancestors squarely in the area and surrounding region.

I typed Bratislava, Slovakia into my Google browser.  It’s a pretty cool town.  Google Search provides“… It’s surrounded by vineyards and the Little Carpathian mountains, crisscrossed with forested hiking and cycling trails. The pedestrian-only, 18th-century old town is known for its lively bars and cafes. Perched atop a hill, the reconstructed Bratislava Castle overlooks old town and the Danube.”

I’m sold!  That’s our kind of town.  Heck, maybe ditch the full tour and just saddle up and book a couple of gigs in Bratislava.  Rockin’ Blues would be fun there.  Lynda can make friends anywhere.   Yes.  This is great dreaming.  It’s a great world out there.  I need to let my tunes lead and teach me ‘no fear’.

While discussing this dreaming with a friend, he planted a different thought.  What if my “fans” is really just one fan, and that fan is traveling from country to country streaming Mike Z Band?  Say What?  Hey!  If that’s the case, I simply need to make one friend.  I don’t need a tour.  I just need to tag along.  That works too!  My music would be traveling right with me!

Again, thank you for stopping by. You can visit the music while it travels at YouTube, Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon, & www.MikeZBand.com.

  1. Okay ~ reading this made me want to put on my wanderlust shoes, pack a backpack and hit the road. First stop? The Bratislava Castle. Just to see who the one fan is, besides me, listening to the Mike Z Band. Stay tuned…
